Scientists have detected a record-breaking high-energy neutrino from beyond the Milky Way, using the KM3NeT observatory under the Mediterranean Sea. This neutrino, measured at about 120 quadrillion electronvolts, is 30 times more energetic than any previously detected neutrino. The neutrino likely originated from one of 12 supermassive black holes in distant galaxies. It was identified as a muon neutrino, having traveled through 140 km of rock and seawater before reaching the detector. The KM3NeT project, still under construction, aims to enhance our understanding of cosmic events.
