School fosters unity between Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur's conflict zone
Needy Home Academy in Mapao Zingtun village remains a peaceful learning environment amid ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. The school serves 632 students and 42 teachers from diverse backgrounds, promoting unity between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Despite a significant drop in student numbers due to violence, those who remain coexist harmoniously. The school, founded in 2004, has expanded from 50 students to offering classes up to grade 12, focusing on modern education and moral values. The academy has also contributed to the village being declared "intoxicant-free." Teachers emphasize their commitment to education and the importance of unity, stating that fighting over external conflicts is unnecessary.
