Scherzer reveals thumb injury could hinder Blue Jays season
Max Scherzer, a veteran pitcher for the Blue Jays, has revealed a concerning injury just before the start of the season. He said his thumb problem could become serious. Scherzer, who recently signed a one-year deal for $15.5 million, shared his frustration with the situation. He described the injury as a “little thing that’s a big thing.” Scherzer feels capable of pitching well, but the thumb issue could hinder him. He explained that although he pitches fine at first, he experiences pain afterward. Recently, he pitched four scoreless innings in a game against the Twins, but he still worries about his recovery. Scherzer noted that the Blue Jays were informed about his thumb issue when they signed him. He mentioned that he had worked on strengthening his grip to manage the problem but it resurfaced during spring training. Scherzer emphasized the importance of his thumb for his overall arm health and the way he pitches. Despite his concerns, Scherzer has performed well this spring. He has allowed only two runs in 13 innings, with 18 strikeouts. However, he acknowledged his fastball's velocity has been lower than usual, which is something to keep an eye on as the season begins.
