Saskatchewan Roughriders add Trey Lance to negotiating list
Quarterback Trey Lance has not found a new NFL team since his contract with the Dallas Cowboys ended earlier this month. However, his options might extend beyond the United States. The Saskatchewan Roughriders, a Canadian Football League (CFL) team, have added Lance to their negotiating list. This gives them exclusive rights to talk to him about a contract if he decides to play in Canada. There are no current signs that Lance is considering a move to the CFL. Notably, his father, Carlton Lance, played for the Roughriders in 1993. Lance was drafted third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 but spent most of his rookie season on the sidelines. He started as the 49ers' quarterback in 2022, but a broken ankle in Week Two ended his season. After the rise of Brock Purdy later that year, he was traded to the Cowboys before the 2023 season. In his time with Dallas, Lance didn't play at all in 2023 and made only one start in 2024. Playing regularly would be a significant change for him after a challenging few years.
