Santos fire destroys 100 stilt homes

A large fire destroyed approximately 100 homes in a stilt shack community in Santos on Friday morning. One person reportedly died, and others were injured. The blaze began around 7:40 AM in the Caminho de São Sebastião area, rapidly engulfing numerous dwellings. Firefighters have controlled the fire but are still working at the scene. The affected community is part of Dique da Vila Gilda, known as Brazil's largest stilt shack favela. Civil Defense is mobilizing humanitarian aid for those displaced.
