Modi paid tribute to freedom fighter V D Savarkar, who attempted an escape from British custody in the city. Raut called the visit a "matter of pride" and defended Savarkar's legacy, emphasizing his bravery as a freedom fighter. He noted that Savarkar's escape attempt led to significant consequences, including a life sentence. During his visit, Modi will inaugurate a new Indian consulate and participate in various events, including honoring Indian soldiers at a war cemetery. He will continue his tour with a trip to the United States.
