Royal Air Maroc criticizes EU Open Skies agreement as unfair to non-European carriers
Royal Air Maroc has criticized the EU's Open Skies agreement, claiming it is unfair and complicates access to European airports for non-European carriers. The airline's CEO, Abdelhamid Addou, called for a revision of the agreement to better support competition. The airline faces increasing competition from European low-cost carriers like Ryanair, which has expanded its operations significantly. Royal Air Maroc reported a 5% increase in flights, but still lags behind Ryanair's 10% growth. The Open Skies agreement, in effect since 2018, was designed to enhance tourism and aviation between Morocco and the EU. However, Royal Air Maroc argues that it disadvantages African carriers while favoring European airlines in accessing the African market.
