Rotorua land sought for return to Flavell's whānau

Te Ururoa Flavell, a former politician, is asking the Rotorua Lakes Council to return some land to his family. He spoke at a council meeting on Monday about an 810 square meter piece of land in Ngongotahā. Flavell and his cousin, Karl Leonard, are representing their whānau in this matter. They believe it is right for the land to come back to their family. The council's report shows that the land originally belonged to their grandmother, Ranginui Whakaue Hikairo, in 1955. The land was later subdivided for family members. At one point, it was vested in Flavell's uncle, Pakeke Heketoro Leonard, who then transferred it to the council. The parcel of land is located near a larger public reserve that allows access to the lake.
