Rodrigo Duterte arrested in Manila on ICC warrant
Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested at Manila's international airport on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant. This follows an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity linked to his anti-drug campaign, which resulted in thousands of deaths. Duterte returned from Hong Kong, where he spoke at a rally. The ICC had previously ruled that its investigation could continue despite objections from Duterte's administration, which had claimed jurisdiction over the allegations. Current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has chosen not to rejoin the ICC but stated that his government would cooperate with the court's requests regarding Duterte's arrest.
