Rocket Lab successfully launched eight satellites for wildfire detection on March 26, 2025. The mission, titled "Finding Hot Wildfires Near You," took place from the company's New Zealand facility. This is the third launch by Rocket Lab in just two weeks. The Electron rocket lifted off at 11:30 a.m. EST. It detached its core booster shortly after takeoff and deployed the satellites about an hour later. These satellites will help OroraTech monitor wildfires around the world more effectively. The satellites will join an existing network of thermal infrared imaging spacecraft. OroraTech aims to expand its constellation to over 100 satellites in the next five years to improve fire detection and response. OroraTech CEO Martin Langer highlighted the importance of real-time data to help people, including foresters, track fire spread more efficiently. Rocket Lab's quick launch turnaround supports efforts to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season.
