Rivian EVs may still get US tax credit
The federal EV tax credit is likely ending, but Rivian EVs, including the upcoming R2, may still qualify for the credit through 2026. This is due to a proposed exception for automakers with under 200,000 vehicle sales by the end of 2025. The current proposal from the House Ways and Means Committee aims to eliminate the Clean Vehicle Credit by December 31, 2025. However, Rivian's sales figures suggest they will fall below the sales threshold, potentially allowing their EVs to retain eligibility for the $7,500 credit. This potential exception could incentivize consumers to purchase Rivian vehicles. The final decision on the tax credit is still pending, with further developments expected throughout 2025.
