Riverside Habitat for Humanity honors Jimmy Carter with memorial project
The Riverside chapter of Habitat for Humanity is creating a memorial for former President Jimmy Carter. A memorial-signing event was held to gather signatures for a framed wall and door showcasing Carter's contributions to the nonprofit and public service. Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, led the Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity for 40 years, mobilizing over 108,000 volunteers to build more than 4,400 homes globally. Similar memorials are being set up at other Habitat for Humanity locations across the country. The memorial at Riverside ReStore will be open for signatures until January 9, the National Day of Mourning for Carter. Habitat for Humanity also plans to build 26 homes for veterans in Jurupa Valley starting in the spring.
