Riga Sugar Mill reopens in Bihar with new operator and support for local farmers
Riga Sugar Mill has reopened after four years, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar participating in a ceremonial event. The mill, now operated by Nirani Sugar Ltd, aims to boost the agrarian economy in four districts of Bihar. Nirani Sugar purchased the mill for Rs 84 crore after it was deemed non-profitable by the previous operator. The company plans to enhance operations, including replacing a small distillery with a larger one, benefiting around 40,000 local farmers. The CM announced a price increase for sugar cane to support farmers. However, concerns remain regarding unpaid dues for cane growers and mill employees. Kumar also inspected flood damage in the area and inaugurated several local projects.
