Researchers aboard vessel Nautilus spot rare nautilus creatures in Palau waters

popsci.com

After 15 years and over 1,000 expeditions, researchers aboard the vessel 'Nautilus' spotted nautilus creatures in the wild on December 3. They found four specimens during a survey in the Palau National Marine Sanctuary. The nautilus, an ancient marine mollusk, was filmed at depths of 220 to 375 meters. These creatures are rarely seen due to their preference for deep, dark waters. The ongoing NA169 expedition, running from November 25 to December 12, focuses on oceanic interactions and seafloor mapping in the region. The team aims to study nutrient circulation patterns that support marine biodiversity.
