Rajasthan High Court demands clarity on scam investigations
The Rajasthan High Court expressed frustration over confusion in cases related to the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam. On Monday, the court gave the state government a final chance to clarify how many cases will be investigated under the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (BUDS) Act and how many will go to trial under the Indian Penal Code. Justice Farjand Ali highlighted issues during the proceedings. He noted that the public prosecutor had failed to provide a clear explanation on how the BUDS Act would apply in these cases. Some petitioners were arrested and charged under both the BUDS Act and the Indian Penal Code, which has led to legal challenges. The court pointed out a troubling situation. It stated, "If after six years of detention of an accused, the investigating/prosecuting agency is not clear regarding the invocation of the BUDS Act, then certainly, it is a very sorrow state of affairs." The High Court scheduled the next hearing for April 7.
