Punjab shifts 191 police clerks to combat corruption

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has transferred 191 police clerks, known as munshis, in its ongoing fight against corruption. This decision follows recent transfers of tehsildars, as part of efforts to address issues within state departments. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced the transfers on Monday. He emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been actively combating corruption for three years, with many corrupt officials facing jail time. Cheema explained that complaints had arisen about police clerks who had been stationed at the same police stations for 15 to 20 years. This long tenure raised concerns about possible corruption. To combat this, the government has mandated that no police clerk can serve at a single station for more than two years. The finance minister stated that these actions show the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption across all levels, from tehsils to police stations. Cheema reinforced the AAP's founding principles, stating their dedication to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in Punjab.
