Pune traffic causes frequent e-bus breakdowns

PMPML e-buses in Pune are experiencing frequent breakdowns, with incidents up 45% in the last year, causing frustration for commuters. The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) reported 2,966 breakdowns for 490 e-buses as of April, citing issues like battery discharge and air conditioning failures. Officials attribute the problems to heavy traffic and the responsibility of private contractors for maintenance. PMPML plans to add 160 more e-buses and has requested 1,000 more, despite existing operational challenges. New depots are hoped to improve charging and maintenance, while commuters question the expansion plans.
