Pulse survivors revisit Orlando nightclub before demolition
Survivors and families of victims from the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting are visiting the site before its demolition and replacement with a permanent memorial. This marks the first time they can enter the building since the tragedy. The visits, occurring on the ninth anniversary of the mass shooting, will allow small groups to spend a half-hour inside the former LGBTQ+ nightclub. The city of Orlando purchased the property in 2023 and plans to build a $12 million memorial, opening in 2027. The Pulse shooting, which killed 49 people, was the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history at the time. The site has been closed since the attack, and the current visit is a step toward closure for those affected.
