Prosecutors pursue charges in fatal Massachusetts bicycle crash

Prosecutors in Massachusetts are moving forward with efforts to charge someone in connection with a bicycle crash that killed a rider last year. The Middlesex District Attorney's office has filed an application for a criminal complaint related to the incident. The crash occurred on September 23, 2024, when John Corcoran, a 62-year-old man from Newton, was struck by an SUV while biking on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. The accident took place near the Boston University Boathouse in the evening. Corcoran suffered severe injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he later died. A clerk magistrate will review the application to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed with charges. The investigation into the crash by the Massachusetts State Police has recently been completed. John Corcoran had a strong educational background, including graduating from Newton North High School and attending Harvard College and Boston University School of Law. He worked in Los Angeles for a law firm before returning to Boston with his family around 2019. Corcoran is remembered for his skills and contributions in law and his dedication to his family.
