Private spacecraft successfully lands upright on the Moon
Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission 1 successfully landed on the Moon on Sunday, becoming the second private mission to do so and the first to land upright. The spacecraft touched down near Mons Latreille at 3:34 am ET. The mission is part of a NASA partnership aimed at supporting lunar exploration. Blue Ghost carries 10 scientific instruments and is designed to operate for a lunar day, capturing high-definition images of lunar events. Intuitive Machines' IM-2 mission is set to follow on March 6, featuring a new lander with improvements over its previous mission. NASA aims to make private lunar missions routine through its Commercial Lunar Payload Services program.
