POW demands action on promises from Andhra Pradesh government
The Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) held a protest on Monday in Andhra Pradesh. They demanded that the government implement the 'Super Six' promises made by the TDP-JSP-BJP coalition. The protest took place near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the GVMC administrative building. POW’s general secretary, Lakshmi, expressed that these promises helped the NDA win the recent elections. She claimed that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu misled voters about focusing on development, welfare, and social justice. Now, she said the government is using financial issues as an excuse for delays in fulfilling its promises. Lakshmi pointed out that only half of the funds promised for certain welfare schemes had been allocated. She also noted that the government has not created any plans to provide jobs for women or to fight against illegal trafficking and liquor control. Instead, the government appears to be relying on liquor sales as a key source of revenue, which POW leaders strongly criticized. The protest included several leaders from POW and other organizations, emphasizing their demands for action on these issues.
