Portugal bids to host European AI gigafactory

Portugal submitted a bid for one of five European AI "gigafactories," aiming to host a large-scale computing infrastructure for advanced AI development. These gigafactories will feature around 100,000 GPUs, significantly more than current AI factories, to train and deploy complex AI models for researchers and businesses across Europe. The European Commission plans a total investment of approximately 20 billion euros for these facilities, with Portugal's bid including Nvidia and focusing on sectors like health, defense, and ocean economy.
