Poor road conditions led to woman's death in Panchkula

A 22-year-old woman named Richa lost her life in a tragic accident in Panchkula, largely due to poor road conditions. The incident occurred on Monday when a Thar vehicle skidded on the gravel-filled road in Sector 20 and collided with a Swift car. The Thar then struck Richa, who was walking on the footpath after finishing work. She later died from her injuries at PGI hospital. Sources indicate that the road's bad state played a major role in the crash. Many roads in the area are filled with potholes and gravel, which have been linked to past accidents. Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal announced that work to improve all roads in Sector 20 will start in two days, as a contractor has been chosen for the project. SK Nayar, president of the Citizens Welfare Association, emphasized the need for authorities to work together to improve road conditions quickly. He pointed out that the presence of stray cattle on roads also poses a danger, referencing a recent incident where a woman on a scooter was killed due to this issue. This accident is not an isolated event. Last month, four students died in a separate crash on the Panchkula-Shimla highway when their car hit a parked vehicle after a tire burst. The lack of safety features, like side rails on the highway, contributed to that incident as well. Police have again contacted the National Highways Authority of India to address this safety concern.
