Police officer and parents charged with dowry harassment

The Chandra Layout police have filed a case of dowry harassment and attempt to murder against a police Sub Inspector and his parents. This action comes after a complaint from Varsha R., a 27-year-old woman who claims she has been tortured by her husband and his family for the last year. Varsha filed her complaint on Monday. She says her husband, Kishore P., demanded additional dowry despite their arranged marriage in November 2023. Her parents have stated that they already paid a significant dowry and covered the marriage costs. Kishore allegedly wanted ₹10 lakhs to pay a bribe for a job transfer. When Varsha refused his demands, she claims he physically assaulted her. In her parents' complaint, they mentioned that Varsha even attempted to take her own life due to the abuse but was saved by Kishore, who then continued to beat her. Varsha is currently receiving treatment in a hospital for her injuries. The police are searching for Kishore, who is currently in hiding.
