Police file case against BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu
The Salem city police have registered a case against K Annamalai, the BJP state president, and H Raja, a national leader of the party. This action follows a complaint about comments they made regarding the Tiruparankundram temple. The complaint was filed by local activist Piyush Manush on March 19. Piyush visited the police commissioner's office on Monday to check on the status of his complaint. He stated that recent comments by Annamalai and Raja have increased communal tensions in Tamil Nadu. Piyush accused the BJP leaders of claiming that the hillock at Tiruparankundram belongs to the deity Murugan. He pointed to the 1931 court ruling they mentioned and said their remarks could harm the Muslim community by portraying them as encroachers. In his complaint, Piyush provided evidence from various interviews with Annamalai and Raja. He argued that these comments spread falsehoods and could lead to dangerous consequences. He also threatened to protest if the police did not take action. On Monday evening, the cybercrime unit filed charges against Annamalai and Raja. Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Abinapu confirmed that the case is based on four legal sections related to the matter.
