Police constable arrested for double murder in Kakori

Police have arrested a constable, Mahendra Kumar, and his wife, Ankita, for the murder of two men in Kakori. The murders happened on March 21. Police also recovered the weapon used in the crime and mobile phones linked to the suspects. Mahendra's two brothers-in-law and a nephew are still at large. Authorities say Mahendra used his police contacts to monitor Ankita. He became suspicious of her after noticing she frequently communicated with one of the victims, Manoj Lodhi. This angered him and led him to plan the murder. To avoid drawing attention, Mahendra and Ankita bought new SIM cards to communicate with Manoj. They created a story using Mahendra's official travel schedule to disguise their actions. On the day of the murder, Ankita lured Manoj to a remote location. When he arrived with a friend, Rohit, Mahendra and his accomplices attacked them. Initially, the plan was to kill only Manoj, but they decided to also murder Rohit due to fears he could reveal their involvement. After the killings, Mahendra acted sick to delay reporting for duty, but his injured finger raised suspicions. Inconsistencies in Ankita’s story and her use of a regular SIM card to contact Manoj also caught police attention. The deceased, both young men from a nearby area, had connections to Ankita. She had previously been in a relationship with Manoj before marrying Mahendra in 2021. After Mahendra confronted Ankita about her past, they began plotting the murder in February.
