PMC shuts 27 illegal vegetable markets in Aundh, Baner

hindustantimes.com

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has shut down 27 unauthorized weekly vegetable markets in Aundh and Baner. The action follows a survey revealing that only nine of 36 markets were operating legally under the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act. During the crackdown, the PMC confiscated vendors' goods, including handcarts and vehicles. Officials stated that many markets were causing traffic jams and operating on public roads without proper approval from the state agriculture department. The PMC plans to allow farmers' markets only on municipal-owned vacant plots, following inspections. The Agriculture Marketing Board will submit proposals for selected locations to the PMC for approval.
