Pistoia students find inmates are people like them
High school students met with inmates at a Pistoia prison, concluding a year-long educational program on the Italian justice system. The students aimed to understand the inmates' perspectives. The students from the Amedeo di Savoia high school spent two hours conversing with five inmates, learning about prison life and the challenges faced. They also met with prison staff, including the director and educators. The visit aimed to dispel stereotypes and promote understanding of the prison system, focusing on issues like overcrowding. Students were surprised to find the inmates "people like us" and were impacted by the number of inmates awaiting trial.
