Phivolcs launches fault atlas to improve earthquake safety

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) will launch an atlas today detailing the Central Digos Fault in Davao del Sur. This atlas aims to help reduce earthquake-related deaths and damage. The Central Digos Fault is 18 kilometers long and affects various areas in Digos City. It has the potential to cause a magnitude 6.6 earthquake, posing risks to buildings and infrastructure. Previously, Phivolcs released an atlas for the West Valley Fault in 2015, which spans 100 kilometers and could trigger a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
