PhD student in Hyderabad dies by suicide after alleged family harassment, three arrested

A 28-year-old PhD student in Hyderabad died by suicide on December 25, allegedly due to harassment from a family over her father's debt. Police have arrested three individuals, including her father, in connection with the case. The victim's mother reported that her husband borrowed ₹15 lakh, promising a job for a family member. When the job did not materialize, the family pressured both the victim and her father, leading to humiliation and threats. In a video, the student claimed she was unaware of the debt and stated that the accused were responsible for her death. Police have registered a case under abetment to suicide and the SC/ST Act.
