Cardiff City footballer Perry Ng is excited about his recent acquisition of Singapore permanent residency and his hope to become a citizen soon. Ng, who is from England, participated in community work during his visit to Singapore to train with the national football team. On March 20, he volunteered at the Thye Hua Kwan Active Ageing Centre. There, he took part in exercises, packed and distributed food, and engaged in games and activities with seniors. This experience was important to him, as he also participates in community work in England. Just days later, Ng visited the Kallang Football Hub, where he met young players from the Junior National Development Centre. He expressed a desire to give back to society, reflecting on his family's values and his connection to his grandfather, who was born in Singapore. Ng received his Singapore permanent residency card on March 21. He is now one step closer to fulfilling his dream of representing Singapore in football. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has stated that citizenship applications may take up to 12 months to process. Ng’s father expressed pride in his son’s achievements and excitement for Ng to contribute to Singaporean society. Ng, who is looking forward to playing for the national team, felt positive about the team's potential despite a recent loss to Nepal. FIFA rules require a "genuine link" for players representing national teams. Singapore's citizenship rules currently allow applications based on descent only from those with Singaporean parents. Ng's eligibility was supported through the Foreign Sports Talent scheme, recognizing his sporting skills and commitment to integrate into Singapore's society.
