Peltola Campaign Sues Alaska Over Rejected Absentee Ballot Records
Democratic US Senate candidate Mary Peltola's campaign sued Alaska election officials on Friday to force the immediate release of records on absentee ballots rejected in Tuesday's election, as she trails Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan by about 600 votes. The lawsuit, filed against the Division of Elections and state officials, argues time is critical because ballot counting is underway and the campaign needs the records to monitor whether Peltola supporters' ballots were improperly rejected. The state says the records are confidential and releasing them could delay vote counting. Alaska accepts ballots until November 18, and the race's outcome could affect whether Democrats expand their 54-seat Senate majority, with Mississippi also still undecided.
