Path of Exile 2 developers confirm hacked admin account accessed player accounts
Path of Exile 2 developers confirmed that a hacked admin account allowed unauthorized access to at least 66 player accounts. This breach, ongoing since November, resulted in players losing in-game items and purchases without the possibility of restoration. The hack occurred through an old Steam account linked to an admin account. Attackers used partial credit card details to convince Steam Support to reset the account, enabling them to change passwords and access player accounts. Developers acknowledged security flaws that contributed to the breach and have implemented new measures, including preventing Steam account links to admin accounts. However, they have not announced any compensation for affected players.
