Padres may trade pitcher Dylan Cease to Orioles

The proposed deal would involve Coby Mayo, a young player who has not performed well in the big leagues. Baltimore needs a starting pitcher, making this trade appealing. Mayo's struggles have put him in a tough spot, especially with another promising player, Samuel Basallo, showing great potential in spring training. Basallo could soon take over at first base, which might leave Mayo without a clear path to play. If Mayo moves to San Diego, he might have a better chance to be a starter after Luis Arraez leaves the team. Acquiring Cease would significantly boost Baltimore's pitching lineup, but they would need to negotiate a new contract with him to prevent losing him like they did with Corbin Burnes. Experts expect Cease to sign a five-year deal worth around $108 million next offseason.
