Over 600 people killed in Syria clashes and revenge
Clashes in Syria between security forces and loyalists of ousted President Bashar Assad have resulted in over 600 deaths in just two days, according to a war monitoring group. This violence marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The fighting began Thursday and included revenge killings by Sunni gunmen targeting the Alawite minority, which supported Assad. Reports indicate that many Alawites were shot in the streets, and their homes were looted and burned. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 428 Alawites, 120 pro-Assad fighters, and 89 security personnel were killed. The violence has led to widespread fear, with many residents fleeing to safer areas.
