Over 600 killed in recent Syria clashes

Clashes in Syria over two days have resulted in over 600 deaths, marking one of the deadliest periods since the conflict began 14 years ago. The violence erupted between security forces and supporters of ousted President Bashar Assad. The fighting began Thursday, escalating tensions three months after insurgents took control. Revenge killings by Sunni gunmen against the Alawite minority followed, with reports of looting and arson in affected areas. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 428 Alawite deaths, along with 120 pro-Assad fighters and 89 security personnel. The violence has led to widespread fear, with many residents fleeing to safer areas.
