Over 1,300 people have been killed in Syria in just three days amid violent clashes between the new government and forces loyal to former leader Bashar al-Assad. This marks the worst violence since the Assad regime was overthrown in December. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that many of the dead are civilians, with 830 civilian deaths, alongside 231 security forces and 250 Alawite militants. The group described many killings as executions and massacres, targeting the Alawite community. Fighting began after Alawite gunmen ambushed government forces in Latakia. The new government, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, has struggled to maintain order and protect minorities, particularly the Alawites, amid ongoing violence and a lack of official security forces.
