Over 1,000 people killed in Syria clashes
More than 1,000 people have died in two days of clashes and revenge killings in Syria, according to a war monitoring group. This violence marks one of the deadliest periods since the conflict began 14 years ago. The clashes involved Syrian security forces and loyalists of ousted President Bashar Assad. The death toll includes 745 civilians, 125 security personnel, and 148 militants. Many areas, especially around Latakia, are without electricity and drinking water. The violence escalated after government forces attempted to detain a wanted individual. Revenge killings by Sunni gunmen against the Alawite minority have been reported, with many fleeing to nearby mountains for safety.
