Orange County high school celebrates alum Gerrit Cole in World Series Game 5 for Yankees

Gerrit Cole, a former student at Orange Lutheran High School, will pitch for the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He faces fellow Southern California native Jack Flaherty. Cole, a standout pitcher and 2023 AL Cy Young award winner, has many supporters at his alma mater. School staff and students express pride in his achievements and view him as an inspiration. Cole's journey included a choice between joining the Yankees or attending UCLA after high school. He ultimately chose college before later joining the Yankees, following stints with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros.
