OpenAI's September revenue hits nearly $50 billion, below earlier estimate
OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue for September was nearly $50 billion, a figure lower than previously indicated, according to a source familiar with the matter on Thursday. The company had earlier suggested annualized revenue for last month was around $70 billion, a discrepancy mainly due to an attempt to compare directly with rival Anthropic's figures, the source said. OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment. Unlike Anthropic, OpenAI excludes revenue from cloud partner sales such as AWS and Google Cloud. Both companies are preparing for public listings, which should give Wall Street clearer insight into their finances. OpenAI started the year with $20 billion in annualized revenue.
