Some councilmembers have questioned this decision, arguing that city departments with recovery experience could be utilized instead. Councilmember Monica Rodriguez criticized spending so much on an outside agency when internal resources are available. The city is also navigating a significant budget deficit of $1 billion. This financial strain could complicate recovery efforts and affect city services. Councilwoman Park warned that the economic impact from the fire will be extensive and difficult to manage.
