Oil prices near $109 as Ukraine strikes Russian energy sites and tankers attacked in Gulf
Brent crude oil prices hovered near $109 a barrel on Sunday after Ukraine resumed drone strikes on Russian energy facilities and tankers were attacked in the Persian Gulf, with Brent futures shedding $1.04 to $108.82 per barrel. Fires broke out at an oil terminal and depot in St. Petersburg following a massive Ukrainian drone strike, with the terminal exporting about 120,000 barrels per day of refined products. Ukraine had paused strikes after an Oct. 11 truce declaration, but resumed them in retaliation for continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. In the Middle East, two tankers were attacked off Saudi Arabia's coast on Friday, including one hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and another struck by an unknown projectile, as Iran escalates attacks on tankers to disrupt regional crude exports.
