Odisha's southern police range reports rise in sexual assault and property crimes in 2024

In 2024, Odisha's southern police range reported an increase in sexual assault and property crimes. Rape cases rose to 425 from 398 in 2023, with Ganjam having the highest number at 152. Robbery and theft cases also increased. Property crimes included a rise in robbery cases from 177 to 187 and swindling cases from 627 to 660. The total number of thefts jumped to 1,611 from 1,507. Conversely, murder cases dropped significantly from 195 to 130. Other serious crimes, such as dacoity and rioting, also saw declines. Overall, cognizable cases decreased slightly from 30,967 in 2023 to 30,705 in 2024.
