NYPD officer adopts Maltese dog he rescued
A Maltese dog rescued from the East River has been adopted by NYPD Officer Jared Desalvo, who helped save her. The dog, now named Hudson, was taken home by Desalvo on Saturday. Officer Desalvo, a 10-year veteran, adopted Hudson from the Animal Care Centers of NYC's Queens shelter. The dog was found struggling in the river six weeks ago and was rescued by Desalvo and two other officers. The adoption was a surprise for Desalvo's children, who were excited to welcome Hudson into their family. The dog, who had no identification, is expected to become best friends with the family's other dog.
