Nursing home in Chatra sealed for illegal activities
A private nursing home in Chatra has been sealed by district officials due to serious allegations. Sanjeevani Nursing Home is accused of delivering a baby for an unmarried teenager and selling the newborn for 500,000 rupees. The owner of the nursing home, Suman Kumar, denies these charges. However, a nurse involved in the case has begun to provide information to investigators. The teenager gave birth at the facility about a week ago. The district officials learned the baby was sold shortly after the delivery. Sunny Raj, the Sub-Divisional Officer, initiated an investigation with the help of officer Gourav Kumar Roy. They reviewed CCTV footage and hospital documents, which confirmed the allegations. Specific details about the charges against Suman Kumar and the nurse, Vibha Kumari, were not revealed. The nurse reportedly attempted to mislead investigators by saying that the baby had died at another hospital and had been cremated. However, her story changed during questioning, raising doubts about the baby’s fate. Government regulations do not allow unregistered hospitals to perform certain medical procedures related to pregnancies. SDO Roy reported that the nursing home operated without proper registration, qualified staff, or necessary medical equipment. He noted that illegal abortions had also occurred there. Roy stated that an FIR has been filed against both Suman and Vibha for their illegal activities. Suman claims he was in the process of renewing the nursing home's registration and insists he is being falsely accused.
