Northlight Theatre breaks ground for new Evanston location

Northlight Theatre is beginning construction on a new theater building in Evanston, with plans to open in Fall 2026. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held on March 25, 2025, attended by around 100 people, including community members and theater representatives. The new theater will be located at 1012 Church Street. It will replace Northlight's current venue in Skokie, where the theater has been for 28 years. The estimated cost for the new building is $32 million. Artistic Director BJ Jones also shared his excitement about the move back to Evanston. He noted that many local artists would have opportunities to work with the theater.
