North Allegheny boys swim team wins 2025 state championship

North Allegheny High School's boys swimming team has won the 2025 PIAA Class 3A championship. This victory marks their first state title since they won three consecutive times from 2017 to 2019. The team scored 215 points at Bucknell University on March 14-15, finishing ahead of LaSalle College, which scored 162 points. The Tigers were motivated by their third-place finish at states last year. Senior Gus Miller and his teammates committed to early morning practices, attending workouts as early as 4:45 a.m. They worked hard in the offseason to prepare for this year's competition. Coach Patrick Wenzel praised the team for their dedication. The Tigers set a strong foundation by going 10-0 in dual meets and winning the WPIAL Class 3A title. Miller achieved a school record in the 100 butterfly, which helped solidify their lead. After a successful first day at the PIAA meet, the team maintained their lead going into the second day. Junior Ethan Maravich contributed points by placing third in diving. The team clinched the title when Lesinski and Miller finished well in the 100 back event. Although the North Allegheny girls faced tough competition and placed fourth, they still had individual successes. Junior Claire Bacu excelled, finishing second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Looking ahead, the North Allegheny boys lose three seniors, but the girls’ team remains strong with only one senior. The championship trophy will eventually find its place at the school, a source of pride for both current and future swimmers.
