Noida liquor stores experience rush due to discounts
Customers in Noida have rushed to liquor stores to take advantage of discounts before March 31. Many liquor shops are offering deals like buy-one-get-one-free as they prepare for new contractors to take over in the next financial year. Videos shared on social media show long lines at popular stores, including the English Wine Shop in Sector 18. People have been seen leaving with crates of liquor. The aim is to sell off existing stock before the deadline. According to reports, the rush is expected to grow as the deadline approaches. Retailers must clear out their inventory or risk surrendering leftover stock to the government. This policy is part of the current state excise rules. Starting April 1, new contractors will manage the liquor shops. In February, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a new excise policy that includes changes such as an e-lottery system for liquor shop licenses. This policy also introduces "Composite Shops," which combine beer and foreign liquor sales in one location. However, the operating hours for liquor stores will stay the same, remaining open from 10 AM to 10 PM.
