Noem said El Salvador's prison could hold many more migrants
The Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, stated that tens of thousands of additional migrants could be sent to El Salvador's CECOT prison. This follows a Supreme Court ruling and a federal raid in Phoenix. The El Salvadoran government has reportedly offered to accept more migrants, with plans to expand existing facilities. New provisions of the Alien Registration Act of 1940 will take effect on April 11. These require foreign nationals in the US for over 30 days to register or face penalties. Noem stated that failure to register will result in criminal charges for those residing in the country illegally. Noem warned that individuals who are in the country illegally and fail to register will face criminal charges, possible home raids, and fines up to $1,000 daily. Federal agencies will now actively enforce these regulations.
