NLEx motorists benefit from new toll-free policy

Motorists using the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) are pleased with the new toll-free policy that began on Monday. This policy applies to northbound lanes at the Balintawak Toll Plaza and nearby entry points. The aim is to help drivers dealing with severe traffic jams, which have caused delays of up to four hours. Starting at noon, all northbound drivers can pass without paying tolls at Balintawak and other participating toll plazas. This temporary relief is designed to reduce financial burdens from high fuel costs as drivers have faced significant delays since March 19 due to congestion. Gloria Villarino, a business owner, expressed her gratitude for this initiative. She mentioned that it would help offset the increasing fuel expenses her company incurs. Benjamin Antonio III from the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce also praised the decision and emphasized the importance of adhering to height restrictions for trucks to avoid future incidents. Some drivers feel it's fair not to pay tolls given the challenging traffic situation. Tarlac Governor Susan Yap noted that her friends and family experienced a quicker trip home despite the gridlock. The waived toll of 79 pesos applies to specific routes entering from Balintawak to Meycauayan. However, the toll relief will not extend beyond Meycauayan due to additional lane closures at the Marilao interchange bridge. NLEx Corp. plans to complete repairs by the end of the month, anticipating a surge in travelers for Holy Week. They have requested patience from the public as they work to restore normal traffic flow.
